Texas Farm Credit Summer Interns Explore Ag In A New Way

Farmer and young son working on the farm

This summer, we had the pleasure of welcoming an exceptional group of interns to our team. They’ve been busy exploring our vast territory, rotating through various departments, and diving deep into roles that are crucial to our mission of supporting rural America. Here’s a closer look at their experiences and the impact they’ve made during their time with us!

Meet Our Interns

Connor Chappell from Lyford, TX, is a senior at Texas A&M University studying Agricultural Economics. Growing up the son of a row crop farmer, he learned the importance of lending in their operations and grew familiar with Texas Farm Credit along the way. Connor is eager to learn the legal aspects of farm credit and worked with the legal department throughout his internship.

Courtney Lyssy from Falls City, TX, recently graduated from Texas A&M University with a degree in Agriculture Economics, concentrating in Finance and Real Estate. She’s now pursuing a Master of Real Estate at Mays Business School. Courtney’s passion for rural land appraisal shines brightly, and we’re excited to see where her career takes her in the realm of Texas land appraisal.

Danny Creager, a rising junior majoring in Finance at Texas A&M, joined us without a prior agricultural background. Despite this, Danny has embraced the beauty of rural America and discovered a new appreciation for agriculture. We’re thrilled to have him experience the diverse world of agriculture firsthand.

Janae Braune hails from Geronimo, TX, and is a senior Agricultural Economics major with an emphasis in Rural Entrepreneurship at Texas A&M. Janae’s love for agriculture and her aspirations for a career within the industry make her a perfect fit for our team. We’re proud to be a part of her journey in ag!

Julia Gilliam from Corpus Christi, TX, is set to graduate in December with a degree in Agriculture Leadership and Development. Julia has already demonstrated remarkable enthusiasm and growth during her internship. We’re confident she’s on her way to becoming an influential leader in the agriculture sector.

A Summer of Engagement and Learning

Our interns didn’t just work behind the scenes; they actively participated in key events and experiences. Earlier this summer, they traveled to Houston for the 96th Texas FFA State Convention. Courtney, Janae, and Julia proudly represented Texas Farm Credit at our booth, engaging with attendees and reminiscing about their FFA days—Courtney with the Falls City FFA Chapter and Janae with the Navarro FFA Chapter.

A special shoutout to the South Texas Cotton & Grain Association for meeting with our interns and underscoring the importance of industry partnerships. Your support helps farmers thrive and illustrates the collaborative spirit that drives our industry.

The interns also embarked on a comprehensive tour of our territory, visiting offices and customer operations from Robstown to Sulphur Springs. Along the way, they enjoyed local sights and flavors, gaining valuable insights into our work and the communities we serve. A big thank you to our teams in Robstown, Weslaco, San Antonio, Brenham, Tyler, Sulphur Springs, and Fairfield for hosting our interns and showcasing the diverse aspects of our operations.

Building the Future of Agriculture

Our internship program is designed to provide a robust foundation for the next generation of professionals. Over the course of our 8-week summer program, interns experience a range of departments, including Lending, Credit, Mortgage, Insurance, and administrative functions such as Marketing, IT, HR, Finance, Legal, Audit, and Operations. The program concludes with targeted roles based on both Association needs and intern interests, ensuring a tailored and impactful experience.

At Texas Farm Credit, we are committed to nurturing future leaders in agriculture. Through hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to various facets of our business, we aim to equip our interns with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed in their careers.
